Ocean School – Community articles and interactive ecocentre exhibit script

Ocean School, a free immersive multimedia online learning platform with the slogan, ‘Let the ocean be your classroom’, wanted to supplement their video and interactive resources with short, fun articles on related topics. In particular, the articles provide extra materials for teachers and ocean enthusiasts to engage with on Ocean School’s website.

We worked with Ocean School to determine the topics, such as women in ocean science, solutions to plastics in the ocean, and the importance of ocean literacy, and worked with Ocean School’s Scientific Director to include his voice in the articles and as a key reviewer.

Ocean School has reported that the articles have exceeded their expectations for the number of readers and reaction they’ve received on social media.

Ocean School partnered with Homarus in the development of a ‘choose your own adventure’ exhibit for their new Shediac, New Brunswick, Ecocentre, examining the interactions between right whales and fisheries on the east coast of Canada.

Ocean School entrusted us with producing the script on this complex topic. To accurately represent the many facets of the topic, we connected with and interviewed six experts: a marine conservationist, fishing technology engineer, a veterinarian specialising in whale necropsies, a whale ecologist, an Indigenous fisheries manager, and a fisheries association director. The interviewees generously gave their time to reviewing the script before it was delivered to Ocean School.
